Globaloney!
Well who knows what’s going to happen out there?
We’ve had a couple of years of false starts and false ends, we’ve been flinching at the prospect of a Eurozone meltdown, and wondering if Congressional delays in agreeing America’s economic course will inflict further damage on our global partners. But fortunately for us and most of you reading this, we should just about be able to withstand any suicidal tendencies.
Whilst stock market volatility will ensure that FTSE 250 Finance Directors keep a tight grip on any available cash, that does not mean they will stop spending altogether. They will still need to communicate with clients, distributors, stakeholders and staff and wherever this means a Live Event, a particularly high proportion of these will take place in London, the south east or elsewhere in the UK.
We at Gallowglass are already seeing signs of this. Over the past three months, we have experienced an unprecedented range of discussions, not all directly related to the 2012 Games but indicative of a market sector that is suddenly waking up and having a good stretch after a couple of years under the duvet.
Quality and delivery have returned to the agenda. After a period where “anything as long as it’s the cheapest” was the purchasing mantra that held sway, clients are once again focusing attention on safety, reliability and resource and this must be as a result of realistic budgets being allocated to corporate events.
And finally, try to find an experienced Producer or Production Manager with any consistent gaps in his diary next year. Never mind the prospect of even a second rate venue or hotel from spring 2012.
We should all go down on bended knee and thank our God(s) that the one market sector that can confidently anticipate healthy growth over the next twelve months is the UK event sector. There will, of course, be a heavy bias towards London and the south east but as a shortage of suitable venues reduces options for some companies they will be forced north and west in search of alternatives. A pill made easier to swallow with the sailing taking place at Weymouth and various football matches in stadiums as far north as Glasgow.
